Ho realizzato la cover del n.18 di The Holiday Elba con tematica “Pirati sull’isola”.
Per molti secoli nel mar tirreno la pirateria marittima fu quotidianità.
anche l’isola d’elba fu protagonista di saccheggi,attacchi e incursioni.
ma i pirati furono veramente cosi spaventosi?
aleggia ancora nella nosta storia un’evidente figura stereotipata…
Tra i più risaputi depredatori del mare conosciamo il temuto barbarossa e in seguito pirati derivanti dalla Turchia.
ma rispecchia veramente la figura di un pirata che forse nella propria natura poteva avere altri aspetti nascosti?
Avete mai pensato di pensare ad un soggetto piratesco incline alla novità piuttosto che alla brutalità?
non erano forse anche loro esseri umani magari incuriositi dal mondo?
Siamo questo oppure altro?
Abbattiamo il muro del pregiudizio…
The Holiday Elba
For many centuries maritime piracy was an everyday occurrence in the Tyrrhenian Sea.
the island of Elba was also the protagonist of looting, attacks and incursions.
But were pirates really that scary?
an obvious stereotype figure still hovers in our history…
One of the most well-known predators of the sea we know the feared Barbarossa and later pirates deriving from Turkey.
but does it really reflect the figure of a pirate who perhaps could have had other hidden aspects in his nature?
Have you ever thought about thinking of a pirate subject inclined towards novelty rather than brutality?
Weren’t they also human beings, perhaps curious about the world?
Are we this or something else?
Let’s break down the wall of prejudice…
The Holiday Elba
L’illustrazione che ho realizzato nasce dalla storia folkloristica dell’isola d’Elba, che si vede attraversata da secoli di incursioni da parte dei pirati.
Il pirata è una figura libera, rivoluzionaria in qualche modo, una figura che va contro le leggi sociali, ma che porta con sé anche grandi innovazioni, raccolte durante i suoi lunghi viaggi.
L’immagine dunque vuole far leva sulla figura storica del pirata per rinnovare, distruggere e abbattere gli stereotipi estetici e di genere, portandone di nuovi.
The illustration I created comes from the folkloristic history of the island of Elba, which has seen centuries of pirate raids.
The pirate is a free figure, revolutionary in some way, a figure who goes against social laws, but who also brings with him great innovations, collected during his long voyages.
The image therefore aims to leverage the historical figure of the pirate to renew, destroy and break down aesthetic and gender stereotypes, bringing new ones.
